1930, grew up in a show business family and made her first movie with a starring role in
Tuesday's Child (1943) when she was only 13 years old. Tuesday's Child was the first of her
over 30 TV and movie credits, with memorable roles early in her career in Dead of Night
(1945), Nicholas Nickleby (1947), Anna Karenina (1948) and as Truly Scrumptious in Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang (1968). Howes got her start on the stage in the West End in 1950, with a
role in Caprice. This led to many appearances on the London and American stage. Howes
replaced Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway production of My Fair Lady
(1956-1962, 2,717 performances) in 1958 so that Andrews could join the London cast of
the play. She also earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her
performance as Fiona MacLaren in Brigadoon(1963). EARL WRIGHTSON (1913-1993,
born in Baltimore, Maryland), a bass vocalist known for his versions of popular show
tunes, had his own TV show, The Earl Wrightson Show (1948) and was a frequent guest on
The Bell Telephone Hour (1959 and after). LOIS HUNT (1925-2009)was an operatic
soprano who frequently sang with Wrightson, her husband. She made her professional
debut in 1946 and, by 1950, was appearing regularly in productions at the Metropolitan
Opera. She also appeared on Broadway, including as a replacement for Marion Marlowe
as Elsa Schraeder in The Sound of Music (1959-1963, 1,443 performances). Hunt ended
her singing career after Wrightson died. Lightly toned. Pinholes at left from album binding.
