SALLY ANN HOWES
Small b/w photo of a young Howes from the chest up in a dark blouse, signed "Best Wishes"
Photograph signed "Best Wishes/Sally Ann Howes" in blue ink. With pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 3¼x5¼, printed on cardstock. Howes, born in London, England in 1930, grew up in a show business family and made her first movie with a starring role in Tuesday's Child (1943) when she was only 13 years old. Tuesday's Child was the first of her over 30 TV and movie credits, with memorable roles early in her career in Dead of Night (1945), Nicholas Nickleby (1947), Anna Karenina (1948) and as Truly Scrumptious in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). Howes got her start on the stage in the West End in 1950, with a role in Caprice. This led to many appearances on the London and American stage. Howes replaced Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway production of My Fair Lady (1956-1962, 2,717 performances) in 1958 so that Andrews could join the London cast of the play. She also earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Fiona MacLaren in Brigadoon (1963). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Worn and rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
