SAM JAFFE and BETTYE ACKERMAN
3½x5 candid photograph of the Hollywood couple.
Photograph signed: "Sam Jaffe" and "Bettye Ackerman", Color 3½x5. The couple was married in 1946. Sam Jaffee (1891-1984) specialized in portraying eccentric characters. His most prominent roles came early, in such films as Lost Horizon (1937), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and Asphalt Jungle (for which he earned an Oscar nomination in 1950), but he continued in strong supporting roles until shortly before his death from cancer. He played Dr. Zorba on the medical drama Ben Casey (1961-1966). Actress Bettye Ackerman (1924-2006) is best known to television audiences as Dr. Maggie Graham, the love interest (1962-1963) of Vince Edwards on the TV medical drama, Ben Casey. Ackerman was the second wife (1956-1984) of the show's co-star, character actor Sam Jaffe (1891-1984), who played Casey's mentor. Ackerman, who made her television debut in 1955 on Studio One, went on to appear in a number of early TV anthologies, and she had guest starring roles on a long list of TV series, including recurring roles on Bracken's World (1970) and Return to Peyton Place (1972, as the first Constance MacKenzie). Ackerman also appeared in several made-for-TV movies, and she was seen on the big screen in a handful of feature films from 1959 (Face of Fire) to 1991 (Ted and Venus). Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
