League MVP in 1956 and 1959 and an All-Star every season, he entered the Hall of Fame in 1970. Pettit was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996. GEORGE YARDLEY (1928-2004) starred at Stanford before becoming an NBA All-Star in all six of his pro seasons for the Fort Wayne/Detroit Pistons and Syracuse Nationals (1954-1960). Yardley, who led the League in points scored in 1957-1958 (2001), entered the Hall of Fame in 1996. Point guard SAM JONES, known as "Mr. Clutch," played his entire pro career (1957-1969) as a Boston Celtics. During his 12 years with the Celtics, the team won the NBA Championship ten times! The 5-time All-Star entered the Hall of Fame in 1984. JACK RAMSEY, originally a high school coach in Philadelphia, lead St. Joseph's College to a Final Four appearance before moving to the NBA. There he coached the formerly weak Portland Trail Blazers to nine postseason appearances in his ten years, including the 1977 NBA Championship. An author and now a color analyst for the Miami Heat, Ramsey entered the Hall of Fame in 1992. In his 11 NBA seasons (1949-1960) with the Minneapolis Lakers and St Louis Hawks, SLATER MARTIN made 7 All-Star teams. Five of his teams (4 Laker and one Hawk) won the NBA Championship, and Martin entered the Hall of Fame in 1982. BAILEY HOWELL played for 4 NBA teams in his eleven seasons (1959-1971), making the All-Star team six times and scoring 17,700 points. Part of the Boston Celtics NBA championship teams of 1968 and 1969, he entered the Hall of Fame in 1997. CLIFF HAGAN was part of the University of Kentucky NCAA Championship team of 1951, and later returned to that school as Athletic Director. After two years in military service, where he played on two consecutive Worldwide Air Force Championship teams, Hagan played for the NBA St Louis Hawks (1956-1966) and ABA Dallas Chaparrals (player-coach, 1967-1970), making 5 NBA and 1 ABA All-Star teams. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1978. Hagan was untouched by the point-shaving scandal at Kentucky teammate in 1952, but had to resign his athletic directorship there in 1988 after the basketball team was enmeshed in a recruiting scandal. Kentucky's baseball stadium is named after him. HARRY GALLATIN (1927-2015) played for the New York Knicks in 9 of his 10 NBA seasons (1948-1958), leading the league in rebounding in 1954 and named an All-Star 7 times. He was NBA Coach of the Year in his first year as head coach of the St Louis Hawks (1962). Gallatin entered the Hall of Fame in 1991. DANNY SCHAYES played 18 NBA seasons, during which 12 of his teams made the playoffs: Denver 7 times, Orlando twice, and Milwaukee, Phoenix and Miami once each. Not a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame like his dad, Dolph Schayes, he is enshrined at his alma mater, Syracuse University. Schayes is married to former Olympic diver Wendy Lucero-Schayes. Center DAVE COWENS starred for the Boston Celtics from 1970 to 1980, making the NBA All-Star season in seven consecutive seasons (1972-1978). The League's MVP in 1973, he was coaxed out of retirement for one season in Milwaukee (1982-1983). A key member of the NBA Championship Celtics teams of 1974 and 1976, he was a bridge between the 60's Celtics of Bill Russell and the 80's Celtics of Larry Bird.
