First Day Cover honoring Physical Fitness and the Centennial of the Sokol movement, 1965. 5¢ Centennial of the Sokols stamp affixed at upper right corner. "SLAMMING SAMMY" SNEAD (1912-2002)won both the Masters and the PGA three times and the British Open once. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1953. In 1965, Snead became the oldest player (at 52 years and ten months) to win a PGA tournament (the Greater Greensboro Open). American golfer BYRON NELSON(1912-2006) was called a "mechanical" golfer because his play was so consistent. Nelson, who won the Masters in 1937 and 1942, the U.S. Open in 1939 and the PGA Championship in 1940 and 1945, won a record 11 consecutive golf tournaments in 1945. He was elected to the PGA Hall of Fame in 1953 and the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. BEN HOGAN (1912-1997) won the U.S. Open in 1948, 1950, 1951, and 1953, the Professional Golfers' Association championship in 1946 and 1948, the Masters in 1951 and 1953 and the British Open in 1953. He is one of only five golfers to win all four Grand Slam titles; Nicklaus, Player, Sarazen and Woods are the other four. Hogan was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
