Actor sends a letter of thanks to John Willis, editor of Theatre
World, updates his biography
Autograph letter signed: "Sam Stoneburner" in blue ink. 1
page, 5¾x7¾. March 31, 1980. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: Thank you for
your letter. Enclosed is a picture [not included] for your files. I am
always grateful to be included in Theatre World and think all these publications
are truly wonderful. Thank you". Sam Stoneburner (1929-1995) worked
both on stage and on screen, making his Broadway debut in 1970 in the original
play Foreplay (1970-1971). He later appeared in Different
Times (1972), Bent (1979-1980) and The First
(1981). On screen, he is best known for his performances in Love Hurts
(1990), JFK (1991), a Woman Named Jackie
(1991) and the film adaptation of his most successful Broadway show,
Six Degrees of Separation (1993). John A. Willis (1916-2010),
active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in
1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the
foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and
presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the
nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which
received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues
under chief editor Ben Hodges. Slightly toned. Corners rounded. Fine
