SAMMY CAHN
The songwriter signs away song rights to his ex-wife.
Document signed: "Sammy Cahn", 1p, 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1977 June 7. Cahn "... hereby transfers and assigns to Gloria Franks (formerly known as Gloria Cahn) an undivided one half interest, as tenant-in-common, in and to that certain musical composition (words and music) entitled YOU'RE THE CAUSE OF IT ALL written by the undersigned ..." Notarized Lyricist Cahn (1913-1993) won Academy Awards for Best Song for "Three Coins in the Fountain" (1954), "All the Way" (1957), "High Hopes" (1959) and "Call Me Irresponsible" (1963). His Emmy came with "Love and Marriage" (1955). Among Cahn's many other songs are "Let It Snow" and "Come Fly With Me." Often collaborating with Jule Styne, he was a principal songwriter for Frank Sinatra. He is enshrined in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Cahn married Gloria Delson, a big band vocalist, in 1945. They had two children, including jazz guitarist Steve Kahn. She charged him with mental cruelty during their 1964 divorce. (According to a snide Time magazine observation that year, she complained that he left her alone at parties.) At the date of this document, both had remarried (Gloria to Mike Franks, Cahn to Virginia Basile (1970 until his death). Slightly creased. Paperclip impressions in upper left. Otherwise, fine condition.
