Sammy Davis, Jr. and May Britt sign a deed to property in Beverly Hills.
Document signed twice: "Sammy Davis Jr Pres", "Sammy Davis Jr", and "May Davis", 2p, 8½x14. Deed is dated Beverly Hills, California, 1967 July 8, but Sammy Davis's signature as corporate President was notarized in London England, 1967 July 21. Signed on front by Sammy Davis as President of the Corporation and on verso by Sammy and May Davis as guarantors of payment. Deed to a Beverly Hills property purchased by Sammy Davis Enterprises from Ira and Katherine Schoolman, with a promise by the company to pay $22,584.00 with 6% interest, payable at maturity. Notary's seal, signature and impress below Davis's signature on front. Recipt stamp of Sammy Davis Enterprises, 1968 September 27, indicates that the mortgage was paid off. Accompanied by two attached documents: 1) A typed statement (1p, 8x10½) with official seal of "Frank J. Barrett", Vice Consul of the United States in London, England, certifying that the that the notary was properly certified and; and 2) a typed statement (1p, 8½x7½) signed by Ira and Katharine Schoolman, dated 1967 July 13, transferring all right to payment for the deeded property to L. F. Dommerich & Co., a California corporation.. Considered by many as the "World's Greatest Living Performer" during the height of his career, SAMMY DAVIS, JR. (1925-1990) was a versatile one, winning popularity on both sides of the color barrier for his acting, singing, dancing and impersonations. A member of the famed "Rat Pack", Davis appeared with Sinatra and friends in Ocean's 11 in 1960, nine years before his acclaimed performance in Sweet Charity. Nominated for a Tony Award for Golden Boy (1974), Davis also had a number of hit records, including "Love Me or Leave Me", "That Old Black Magic", "What Kind of Fool Am I?" and "The Candy Man". MAY BRITT (DAVIS), a Swedish actress born in Switzerland in 1933, appeared in Swedish and Italian films before finding prominent roles in several American films, including The Young Lions (1958) and The Blue Angel (1959, in the role made famous by Marlene Dietrich). She was married to Sammy Davis Jr. (1960-1968). As one of Hollywood's first interracial couples, they endured death threats and other forms of hostility. Britt starred in one film after her divorce from Sammy, Haunts (1977). Signed document has file and staple holes at top, a pinhead sized spot in front lower left, a receipt stamp at right edge front. The Vice Consul's statement to front in upper left corner with an official ribbon linked to his seal. The Schoolman's transfer note is stapled and taped on verso of main document, not covering any text or signature. Overall, fine condition.
