SAMMY FAIN, GEORDIE HORMEL and FREDDIE SLACK
Three musical talents with very different approaches sign an 8x10 album leaf.
Autograph Lyrics signed: "Sammy Fain/'I'll Be Seeing You,", "George - Thanks too much for/the interview - Geordie Hormel", and on verso "My best to/the best/Sincerely/Freddie Slack", 7¾x10 album leaf. There is a fourth, unidentified signature, Marcel [last name illegible]. When popular music composer SAMMY FAIN, born Samuel Feinberg (1902-1989) won two Oscars in the 1950s for Secret Love (1953) and Love is a Many Splendored Thing (1955), he had already composed three decades of tunes which became popular standards. His titles include "Wedding Bells"," I'll be Seeing You" and "April Love." Among the singers who scored hits with Fain's tunes were the Andrews Sisters, Rudy Vallée, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Pat Boone and Johnny Mathis. GEORDIE HORMEL, heir to the Hormel Foods fortune, claimed to have invented the corn dog while a teen-ager. He composed music for several TV shows, including The Fugitive, Naked City and Lassie, and owned his own recording studio. The first of his four wives was actress Leslie Caron. Originally a drummer, FREDDIE SLACK became a popular pianist and supporting vocalist with several popular swing bands of the 1930s, including Jimmy Dorsey's. He formed his own group in 1942 and had several hits, including "Cow Cow Boogie" and "Strange Cargo." Jagged left edge from removal from bound book. Two and one-half x 1¾ stain at upper left; 2x2¼ stain at lower right. Lightly toned at edges. Newspaper ad (1¾x1¼) on verso. Light show through at all of "Sammy." Otherwise, fine condition.
