SAMSON RAPHAELSON The author who penned many Broadway plays and Hollywood productions signed this typed letter that's dated March 25, 1947 Typed Letter Signed: “Samson Raphaelson” in black ink. One page. Dated March 25, 1947. Features letterhead from the 20th Century-Fox studios in Beverly Hills, California. In Full: The Jazz Singer was my first published book, but was not my first work to be published. I had short stories published as early as 1918 or 1919, but I cannot remember in what magazines. I believe my first one was called The Happiness of Rebecca in Hearst's International Magazine. / The Jazz Singer was originally published by Brentano's, and I'm afraid you'll have to write them for any further information about how many copies were published, etcetera. I believe the year 1925 is correct. I'm sure that much more than one edition has been published”. Samson Raphaelson (1894-1983) was an author from New York City who saw his publications turned into Broadway shows and films. His short story “The Day of Atonement” was turned into the play The Jazz Singer, which appeared on Broadway in 1927. Raphaelson earned dozens of screenwriting credits into the 1980s. These credits include Suspicion (1941), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), and Trouble in Paradise (1932). Accent on Youth appeared on Broadway from 1934-1935 to great success; over 60 years later, the play was revived on a Broadway stage. Toned. Mailing creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
