SAMUEL GOLDWYN, SAMUEL GOLDWYN, JR. and FRANCES GOLDWYN
The Goldwyn family signs a document extending their partnership to December 31, 1970.
Document Signed: "Samuel Goldwyn" (twice), "Samuel Goldwyn Jr" (twice) and "Frances Howard Goldwyn", 4p, 8½x13. Los Angeles, California, 1968 December 30. Certificate of Amendment of Certificate of Limited Partnership of Samuel Goldwyn Productions. Amends the original limited partnership of 1956 February 23 and subsequent amendments to extend the term of the partnership to 1970 December 31. Notarized with three signatures (once for each signer) by Notary Public "Betty C. Kent". SAMUEL GOLDWYN (1879-1974) organized Goldwyn Pictures (1917) and merged with Louis B. Mayer's Metro Pictures to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925. He is one of the few winners of both the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial and Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Awards. Goldwyn never made a "B" picture, striving for excellence on every film and producing movies like Greed (in the silent era, 1924), Stella Dallas (1937), Pride of the Yankees (1942), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) and Guys and Dolls (1955). SAMUEL GOLDWYN, JR. (1926-2015) continued in his father's footsteps, making films like Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970), Mystic Pizza (1988) and Master and Commander (2003). Several of his films, such as The Preacher's Wife (1996), have been remakes or tributes to films made by his father. Goldwyn, Jr. said this of his dad: "With every picture he made, my father raised the money, paid back the bank, and kept control of the negative." FRANCES HOWARD, wife and mother of the other two signers, was known for helping her husband curb his legendary temper. Binder holes at top. Ink number (unknown hand) at right margin of each page. Fine condition.
