SAMUEL GOLDWYN, JR.
Movie mogul's son offers Gary Cooper a part in a new movie.
Typed Letter Signed: "Sammy", 1p, 5½x8½. Samuel Goldwyn Productions, Los Angeles, 1954 August 17. To Gary Cooper. In full: "Herewith is a copy of the best existing screenplay of the story which we discussed this morning. Also, a copy of the original. I would very much appreciate your reading this so that we can talk further. Please bear in mind that this script needs considerable work-especially on the last third, but I hope you will agree that the fundamental idea is there. All the best." Screenplay not included. The first film produced by 29-year-old SAMUEL GOLDWYN, JR. (1926-2015) was a western, Man with the Gun, released in 1955, starring Robert Mitchum as a soft-spoken stranger who tames a terrorized town. It sounds like a role GARY COOPER may have played and, judging by this letter, the part may have been offered to him. Staple at upper left corner. File hole and light paper clip stain at upper blank margin, file nick at right edge. Overall, fine condition.
