He signs a typed letter congratulating the William Morris Agency on its 40th
anniversary (1938).
Typed Letter signed: "Samuel Goldwyn", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Los Angeles,
California, 1938 July 13. On personal letterhead to William Morris Agency,
New York, N.Y. In full: "I want to be one of those voicing
congratulations on your fortieth anniversary. Those forty years have been fujll
of service and of helpfulness both to the theatre and to the motion picture
industry. They are forty years of which your entire organization can well be
proud." Goldwyn organized Goldwyn Pictures (1917) and merged with
Louis B. Mayer's Metro Pictures to form Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925. He is
one of the few winners of both the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial and Jean Hersholt
Humanitarian Awards. Goldwyn is said to have uttered the following
Goldwynisms: "Include me out", "Anyone who goes to a psychiatrist should have
his head examined" and "A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written
on". Lightly worn at corners. Fine condition.
