In part: "Here at this country house exposed to all the winds of winter, they warm all the bedrooms with oil stoves...They say we need have no fears. Twain's letter was possibly written circa 1904, the year his wife, Olivia, died and Clara suffered a nervous breakdown. SAMUEL CLEMENS (1835-1910), who wrote under the pen name Mark Twain, was the author of such classic novels as Tom Sawyer (1875), Huckleberry Finn (1885) and A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court (1889). CLARA CLEMENS (1874-1962), Clemens' second daughter, accompanied her father and mother on his 1895-1896 world lecture tour. Clara, who wrote five books, including My Father Mark Twain (1931), and a number of articles, married concert pianist Ossip Gabrilowitsch in 1909. After Gabrilowitsch's death in 1936, Clara married Jacques Samoussoud, another musician of Russian descent. Mid-horizontal fold nicks the lower portion of the "F" in Father. Fine condition.
