SAMUEL LYMAN CO-SIGNED BY ELEAZER WELLS State leaders send correspondence to raise money for the Revolutionary War effort Manuscript Document Signed: “Samuel Lyman”, “Eleazer Wales”, and unknown signer “John Lawrence Esqr./Treasurer” 6¼x8 page pay notification in brown ink. The Selectmen office acts as an executive governing body, usually consisting of 3-5 individuals. This type of body governs many New England towns today. In Full: "Sir-/Pay Sharon Selectman thirty seven Pounds six Shilllings and six/Pence Connecticut Currency and charge the State/Pay Table Office Nov 2d 1780”. Eleazer Wales (1732-1794) was a Yale graduate and Presbyterian Minister. In addition to his public service on the Pay Table, he was for a time a Justice of the Peace in Hartford. Samuel Lyman, born in Goshen, Connecticut in 1749, was a prominent politician in 18th Century America. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1786-1788), State Senate (1790-1793) and later as a United States Congressman (1795-1800). Third signer merits further research.
