SAMUEL ROTHAFEL
As head of the Roxy Theatres, he signs this typed 1928 letter "Roxy."
Typed Letter signed: "Roxy", 1 page, 8½x11. New York, N.Y., 1928 September 21. On letterhead of Roxy Theatres Corporation "Under personal direction of S. L. Rothafel "Roxy"" to Dr. and Mrs. John C. Jones, Brookline, Massachusetts. In full: "Thanks ever so much for your lovely letter. I should like to write a lot and tell you of my appreciation of your kindly interest, but you know it is impossible. Know nevertheless, that your appreciation of our efforts is an inspiration that will bring better and better results as time goes on. I know the whole 'gang' voice these sentiments, and we say with all our hearts, God bless you. Sincerely yours". American theater magnate Samuel Rothafel (1881-1936), usually called Roxy, gave his name to the theater chain and also indirectly the Rockettes of his Radio City Music Hall, who were initially called the Roxyettes. The son of an immigrant shoemaker, Rothafel was a self-made man, like many of the founders of the film industry. Fold creases through signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
