SANDOR KONYAThe Hungarian tenor pens his name and includes his “best wishes” on this 3½x5½ black and white photo Photograph signed: “with my best wishes/ Sándor Kónya/ New York” in blue ink, b/w, 3½x5½. Sándor Kónya (1923-2002) was a tenor who specialized in German and Italian roles. In 1951, Kónya made his professional debut performing in Cavalleria Rusticana in Bielefeld, as Turiddu. Subsequently, he performed in productions in various German venues in Darmstadt and Hamburg. Then, in 1953, he joined the Berlin State Opera. Some of his best-known performances came in the title role of Wagner's Lohengrin. Kónya's well-developed top register enabled him to oftentimes play the tenor roles associated with the "jugendlicher heldentenor" (or young heroic tenor). Corners and edges gently worn. Toned. Creasing at center of photo. Otherwise, fine condition.
