Signed clipped from the half-title page of her book Bleeding
Kansas
Book Page signed: "Sara Paretsky", 5½x4. Ink signature on a
clipping with her printed name and the title of her book: Bleeding Kansas, Sarah
Paretsky". Sarah Paretsky (b. 1947) has written to date 16 novels, two
short story collections, a non-fiction book, and has edited two anthologies of
short fiction featuring female detectives. She has created a memorable
private investigator, V. I. Warshawski, a tough woman PI from Chicago,
Paretsky's own home since she earned a PhD from U. of Chicago. Kathleen
Turner portrayed Warshawski in a 1991 movie, but the film took many
liberties with the character. Bleeding Kansas, set in contemporary
Lawrence, Kansas, where Paretsky grew up, is one of her few books not to feature
Warshawski. Paretsky, who is credited with transforming the image of women in
crime fiction, received the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award on
April 28, 2011. Irregularly cut edges. Otherwise, fine
condition.
