Autograph Letter signed: "Sarah Bernhardt", 2p, 5¾x3½. No place, no date. On her
monogrammed stationery with the bannered expression "quand même", meaning "all the
same". To "Charmante Madame" (charming lady). In French, not fully translated. In
part:"Would you be willing to rent me the small room and bathroom for three months for [2
words illegible] five [2 words illegible] beautiful days? Would you let me know if it is possible to
have my blinds? Would you lend me the little wooden table that was at Villa Toto? And now,
would you, Charming Lady, please accept the expression of my best sentiments". The French
stage star, noted for her remarkable voice, emotional acting and unconventional personal
life, appeared in a few silent films. The receipts from the United States distribution of the
1912 British film Queen Elizabeth, in which she played the title role, provided Adolph
Zukor with the funds to found Paramount Studios. Lightly soiled, light wear at edges, stray
