PROJECT MERCURYThree Astronauts pen their signatures with one secretarially signed on this commemorative envelope for the Gemini Two-Man Spacecraft! Commemorative Envelope signed: "Gordon Cooper" Secretarial Signature of [Alan B. Shepard Jr] and "Scott Carpenter", 6½x3½. Space Cover with "Gemini Two-Man Spacecraft" rubber-stamped cachet postmarked Cape Canaveral, FL August 21, 1965, the day of the Gemini 5 launch. GORDON COOPER (1927-2004) shattered Schirra's record on May 15-16, 1963, orbiting the earth 22 times while manning Mercury-Atlas Faith 7. Cooper was the first American to spend more than one day in space in a flight that took 34 hours and 19 minutes. The first American in space was ALAN SHEPARD (1923-1998). He was aboard the Freedom 7 capsule atop a Mercury-Redstone 3 on May 5, 1961. Shepard later walked on the Moon (and made a golf shot there) as Commander of the Apollo 14 mission. SCOTT CARPENTER repeated Glenn's feat on May 24, 1962, making three orbits aboard the Mercury-Atlas Aurora 7. Tape remnant at right blank area touches "tt" in Scott and "C" in Carpenter. Otherwise, Fine condition.
