SEAN O'DOHERTY
Extremely Rare! A triumphal patriotic poem, "Onward Old Glory,"
written in the darkest days of World War II
Typed Poem signed: "Sean O'Doherty/Rights except for signature
reserved", 1 page, 8½x11. His poem, "Onward Old Glory", written on May 7,
1942. Poet Sean O'Doherty has faded, regrettably, from the pages of
history. More research would be needed to discover details of his life. However,
his poem, written in the darkest days of World War II, would prove
prophetic. On May 6, 1942, the US forces on Corregidor surrendered to the
invading Japanese. Japanese forces were on the offensive from the Indian Ocean
to the Solomon Islands. German armies were advancing in Russia and North Africa.
Doolittle's raiders had bombed Tokyo on April 18, but this was a mere pinprick.
But within a month, the tide would turn in the Pacific at the Battle of
Midway. By year's end, the Battles of El-Alamein and Stalingrad, as well as
Allied landings in North Africa, showed that the Allies would indeed, at great
cost, "stamp out the Axis foe." .Toned and creased. Filing holes at left
edge. Signed in pencil. Mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
