Society on a letter regarding a dinner party, and unfortunately not being able
to make it
Typed letter signed: "Thomas Kelly", in purple ink, 8½x11.
October 26, 1965. Congressional Medal of Honor Society. United States of
America. In full: "Dear Mrs. Yessen: I received your kind note re
Floyd Silk's Dinner. I regret that I will be out of town on Government business.
I saw Floyd at a Legion meeting last week and explained I may not make it. You
have my permission to use my name on the Dinner Committee. I trust the affair
will be a smashing success. Floyd is a wonderful person". Thomas J. Kelly
(1923-1988) was a United States solider and a recipient of the Medal of
Honor. During World War II, Kelly served as a Corporal in the Medical
Detachment. On April 5, 1945, Kelly dragged wounded men to safety while being
fired at, treating them for their injuries despite his own life being in
danger. For his bravery during the war to help his fellow soldiers, he was
awarded the Medal of Honor on November 1, 1945. After World War II, he would
eventually reach the rank of Sergeant before retiring. Normal mailing folds.
