SEIJI OZAWA, ALBERT GENOVESE, SHERMAN WALT, CHARLES KAVALOVSKI and members of the 1988-1989 WASHINGTON BULLETS Album leaf signed by Boston Symphony Orchestra musicians on front and NBA basketball players on verso Signatures: “Seiji Ozawa”, “Sherman Walt”, “Alfred Genovese”, “Charles Kavalovski”, and one other unidentified signer on front and “Steve Colter/ #20”, “Bernard King”, “Dave Feitl/ 22”, “Darrell Walker”, “Dominic Pressley”, “Harvey Grant” and two others (also unidentified) on verso. Japanese conductor SEIJI OZAWA (b.1935) was a pianist who eventually shifted his focus to conducting. Known primarily for his work with the San Francisco Symphony and the Boston Symphony, Ozawa is considered to be an advocate of modern composers. Among the many awards and accolades received by Ozawa include Japan's Order of Culture, an Emmy in 1976, and Grammys in 1981 and 2016. He has also received Kennedy Center Honors. ALFRED GENOVESE (1931-2011) was an oboist who studied under Marcel Tabuteau. He earned the seat of principal oboe in both the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1977-1987) and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (1960-1977). SHERMAN WALT (1923-1989), considered by many to world's most eminent bassoonists of his time, studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia before joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 1953, he became a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, continuing on with the eminent musical group until his retirement in 1989. CHARLES KAVALOVSKI (b.1936) was the principal horn player in the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1972 to 1997. In addition to becoming a highly successful musician, Kavalovski earned a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, teaching at both MIT and Boston University. Signers on verso are members of the 1988-1989 WASHINGTON BULLETS. The team had middle-of-the-road season that year, finishing 4th in the NBA Atlantic Division with a record of 40-42. Lightly toned. Staining throughout, some of which touches the “S” of “Sherman and the “G” of Genovese on front. Creasing toward lower left-hand corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
