In full: "Dear Miss Farrand: Thank you for your kind letter and generous comments. In reply to your inquiry regarding the next governor of Arizona, the Republican candidate is Mr. Richard Kleindienst who was Barry Goldwater's Director of Field Operations during his primary campaign. I am sure you will agree dick Kleindienst will, if elected, carry on the responsibilities of this office in a manner of which we can all be proud. Sincerely," Normal mailing folds. Fine condition. Paul Fannin (1907-2002) was first elected to public office in 1958 and served as the Republican Governor of Arizona from 1959-1965. Elected to the U.S. Senate (replacing Barry Goldwater when he ran for the Presidency) he served from 1965-1977. A hard-line conservative, he voted against the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972 and retired after serving two terms.
