The U.S. Senator from West Virginia signs a letter to Ralph Errington Ward for his collection.
Typed Letter signed: "Chapman Revercomb", as U.S. Senator, 1 page, 8x10½, No place, 1945 August 7. On letterhead of The United States Senate, Committee on Military Affairs addressed to Ralph Errington Ward, Washington, D.C. In full: "Dear Mr. Ward: In accordance with the request contained in your letter of July 31st, I am enclosing my auto-graph for your collection and appreciate your asking for it. With kindest regards, Sincerely yours,"affixed to an 8½x11 page (3 surfaces). Accompanied by: U.S. Senate envelope addressed to Ralph Errington Ward, postmarked Charleston, West Virginia, August 7, 1945 (affixed on verso, 2 surfaces). William Chapman Revercomb (1895-1979) was a Republican U.S. Senator from West Virginia from 1943-1949 and from 1956-1959 (filling a vacancy caused by the death of Harley M. Kilgore). An attorney and veteran of WWI, Revercomb was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of West Virginia in 1960. From the collection Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward became President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Adhesive residue on verso (affixing letter to page). Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
