Original Art on First Day Cover Signed: "Mad-ly!/Aragonés/91", 6½x3¾. FDC honoring the centennial of the discovery of gold in California, 3-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Coloma, California, January 24, 1948, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. On this envelope, Aragonés has drawn "Mad" magazine's Alfred E. Newman holding a bag of gold with the bottom torn open and gold nuggets falling out. Newman's shirt reads: "What Me Worry?", his trademark expression. Working for "Mad" magazine since 1962, Aragonés is best known for his drawings in the margins of the pages. He is also the creator of the "Groo the Wanderer" comic character. Fine condition.
