Autograph Letter signed: "Set Svanholm", 1 page, 5½x7. New
York, N. Y., 1950 February 7. On letterhead of the Hotel Alden to "Dear
Janis Sarput [?], in full: "Thank you so much for your kindness
sending me the photo you took of me and Miss [?]. I think it is
excellent. May I return your kindness with sending you a photo of me as Tristan?
With many thanks and kindest regards. Yours". Swedish operatic tenor Set
Svanholm (1904-1964) made his operatic debut as a baritone singing the role of
Silvio in Pagliacci in Stockholm in 1930. He went on to become a regular
performer at the New York Metropolitan Opera (1946-1956), the Vienna State Opera
(1938-42), and The Royal Opera House in London (1948-57). Svanholm was also
director of the Royal Swedish Opera (1956-1963). Fold through center. Lightly
toned. Fine condition.
