Shadowlands (1993) is the Academy Award-nominated tragic romance of author and Christian scholar C. S. Lewis, played by Hopkins, and his American wife Joy Gresham, played by Winger. It's a feature film adaptation of the William Nicholson play of the same name. HOPKINS, born Philip Anthony Hopkins in Margam, Prot Talbot, West Glamorgan, Wales, England in 1937, burst full-flower onto the American scene in 1974 as an ex-Nazi doctor in QB VII, the first television miniseries. The actor became typed in intense, neurotic roles for the next several years in films such as Audrey Rose (1976), Magic (1978) and Bounty (1982). On TV, Hopkins played roles as varied (yet somehow intertwined) as Adolph Hitler, accused Lindbergh-baby kidnapper Bruno Richard Hauptmann and the Hunchback of Notre Dame. In 1991, Hopkins won an Academy Award for his bloodcurdling portrayal of murderer Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs. In 1995, Hopkins earned considerable acclaim and an Oscar nomination for his uncanny interpretation (done without elaborate makeup) of President Richard M. Nixon in Nixon. Hopkins garnered another Oscar nomination in 1998, this time for Best Supporting Actor, for his work in the slavery epic Amistad. In 2001, Hopkins returned to the screen to reprise his role as the effete, erudite, eponymous cannibal in Hannibal, the long-anticipated sequel to Silence of the Lambs. He returned for a third time to play the character of Hannibal Lecter in 2002's Red Dragon. Screen and television actress WINGER, born Mary Debra Winger in Cleveland Heights, Ohio in 1955, first found fame as Drusilla/Wonder Girl, the super-powered younger sister of Lynda Carter, in the fantasy TV series, Wonder Woman (1976-1977). She became a full-fledged audience favorite for her peppery role opposite John Travolta in Urban Cowboy (1980), which led to the most famous of her "working-class" roles in An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). The following year, Winger was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Shirley MacLaine's doomed daughter, Emma, in Terms of Endearment (MacLaine captured the Best Actress Oscar). Married to actor Arliss Howard since 1996, Winger was previously married to actor Timothy Hutton (1986 until their divorce in 1990). Lightly scuffed and creased. Light impression from disc. Light scratches, other impressions and horizontal striations on cover (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
