Typed letter signed: “Sharon Rockefeller” in blue ink. 5½x7¾. December 9, 1977. Typed on letterhead of the State of West Virginia Executive Mansion, Charleston. In full: “Dear Toni: Thank you for your letter and interest in Mountain Artisans. We do have pillows, which run $25.00, and quilts which sell for several hundred dollars. I hope you enjoy a happy holiday season. Sincerely”. Sharon Lee Percy Rockefeller (b. 1944) served as West Virginia's First Lady from 1977 to 1985 when her husband, John Davison "Jay" Rockefeller IV served as Governor. As First Lady, she promoted the Public Broadcasting Service, helped establish a centralized system to assist mentally handicapped children, and founded Mountain Artisans, a quilting business for low-income artisans. After Jay was elected to the United States Senate in 1985, she became Chief executive officer of WETA-TV in Washington, D.C. She is a former member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Group. Lightly toned. Horizontal fold across center. Otherwise, fine condition.
