Photograph signed: "Sheb Wooley", in black felt tip, B/w 5x7.
Sheb Wooley (1921-2003) was a supporting actor in many Western films
of the 1950s, including High Noon (as one of the Miller gang in the
climactic shootout with Gary Cooper, 1950) and Giant (1956), and
occasional later films (The Outlaw Josey Wales, 1976; Hoosiers,
1986). He played scout Pete Nolan on the TV Western Rawhide
(1961-1965). He recorded a hit novelty song, "One Eyed, One Horned Flying
Purple People Eater" which topped the pop charts for 5 weeks in 1958.
"People Eater" was Wooley's best known recording, but far from his only one. He
wrote the theme song for TV's Hee Haw, and was named the Country Music
Association's Comedian of the Year (1968). Corners slightly worn and
creased. Fine condition.
