which she explains that the couple cannot respond to each piece of fan mail
personally, with a copy of her book I Married a Best Seller included
(1) Typed letter signed: "Sheila Hailey/Here you are!" in
brown ink. 8½x11. Nassau, Bahamas, August 12, 1980. To : "Dear Mrs.
Arcus", in part: "Thank you for your letter addressed to my
husband. He is always delighted to hear from readers, and greatly appreciates
your interest... The already large number of letters we receive from readers
constantly increases, so that nowadays I find it impossible to acknowledge each
one individually. Nor could my husband continue to write books- an arduous,
time-consuming occupation- and cope with mail as well... I hope you will
understand our situation, and- through this acknowledgement- accept thanks and
good wishes from us both. Yours sincerely". Lightly toned. Normal mailing
