Document signed: "Shep Houghton" in ink. Ink and pencil notations in unknown hand. 2 pages, 6½x9, 1 sheet, front and verso. With 6½x3¼ initiation fee receipt no. 276696 carbon copy with perforated left edge stapled at top edge, May 1, 1958. Membership form for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists as an actor & ballroom dancer. American actor Shep Houghton (b. 1914) was literally picked-off the street by a Paramount producer when he was 13- appearing in Ramona, The Last Command and Underworld, they were all filmed in 1927. With a little more age, he appeared in numerous musicals: A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), Broadway Melody of 1938, and Rosalie (1937). He appeared in Gone with the Wind (1939), Ziegfeld Girl (1941), Rhapsody in Blue (1945), The Perils of Pauline (1947), Lullaby of Broadway (1951) and Hello, Dolly! (1969). Houghton transitioned to TV as a regular on The Jack Benny Show (1950-1965), I Love Lucy (1951-1957), Dragnet (1957), Ozzie and Harriet (1961), and many more. In all, Houghton appeared in more than 50 films and even more TV episodes. His last noted appearance was in The Hindenburg (1975), retiring in 1976. Lightly toned and creased at edges and corners. Receipt has fold crease at top edge and carbon copy marks. Otherwise, fine condition.
