Written less than one month after Eisenhower's election as President. In full: "Because of his extremely busy schedule and the heavy mail he has been receiving, General Eisenhower has asked me to thank you on his behalf for your recent message of congratulations. The many heartwarming messages which we have received have been a source of encouragement to all of us. General Eisenhower deeply appreciates your thoughtfulness in communicating with him." Adams (1899-1986) was a U. S. Representative from New Hampshire (1945-1947), Governor of that state (1949-1953) and Chief of Staff to President Eisenhower (1953-1958). He was forced to resign following disclosure of his acceptance of gifts, including a vicuna coat, from a Boston businessman seeking preferred treatment from federal agencies. Creased.
