SHIRLEY MITCHELL. First Day Cover signed: "Shirley Mitchell", 6½x3¾. FDC in the Flower Stamps 1981 series honoring the camellia, 18-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Fort Valley, GA, April 23, 1981, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Actress Shirley Mitchell is best known for her work in TV series, beginning with The Great Gildersleeves (1955). She appeared as Lela Maginnis in The Real McCoys (1957), was Kitty Devereaux on Bachelor Father (1958-1959), portrayed Janet Colton on Pete and Gladys (1960-1962), was Marge Thornton on Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1965-1967) and appeared as Cousin Mae Belle Jennings on Petticoat Junction (1967-1969). Mitchell, who made her film debut in 1944 in Jamboree, appeared in several feature films, including Desk Set (1957) and My Blood Runs Cold (1965), before making her last film, The War of the Roses, in 1989. She also appeared in made-for-TV movies and was a guest star on several TV shows, from I Love Lucy (1953, 1954) to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990). Slightly creased, paper lightly scuffed at lower right blank corner. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso, which is lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
