Sepia. American actress Shirley Olivia Mills (1926-2010), made her movie debut as the
eponymous child bride in the backwoods exploitation flick Child Bride(1938). The movie
had a gratuitous nude swimming scene with the 12-year-old Mills that led to its to being
banned in some areas and that assured its longevity with exploitation fans. Mills went on to
appear in over 30 movies between 1938 and 1956, including a role as Ruth Joad in The
Grapes of Wrath(1940) and as a member of the Jivin' Jacks and Jills dance troupe in seven
Universal Pictures films. She paid the bills between films in the 1940s as a teen model. She
died from complications of pneumonia. Soiled on verso. Cornes slightly rounded. Upper right
corner frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
