1945", 5¼x4 slip, affixed to an 8½x11 page to which a magazine photo of Asch
is also attached. Typed caption at upper edge of mounting page. Jewish novelist
and playwright SHOLEM ASCH (1880-1957) was one of the most
widely known Yiddish writers. He first gained attention with his play,
The God of Vengeance (1910), but is also known for his short stories
and novels that focused on Jewish life in Europe and the U.S. and later on the
common spiritual heritage of Jews and Christians. His works include
Mottke The Thief (1917), The Apostle (1943), Moses (1951),
The Prophet (1955) and two collections of short stories. From the
collection of Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and
squadron commander in the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II. Ward went
on to become President and CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the
cosmetics firm into a major home product conglomerate. Multiple mailing folds.
