SHOW BOAT BROADWAY CAST: BUDDY EBSEN, CAROL BRUCE, JAN CLAYTON, COLLETTE LYONS Ziegfield Theatre playbill for the 1946-1947 Broadway revival of Show Boat, signed by all four on the cover Inscribed showbill signed "Carol Bruce", "Buddy Ebsen", "Jimmy-/[illegible] you-/Jan Clayton" and "Collette Lyons", all in blue ink, on the cover. B/w, 44 pages including cover, 6½x8¾, bound with staples. Playbill for the week of Jan. 14, 1946 for the Ziegfield Theatre's revival of Show Boat. This production was the second Broadway revival of Show Boat. It ran almost one full year, from January 5, 1946 to January 4, 1947, for 418 performances. Lyons played Ellie, Ebsen played Frank, Bruce played Julie and Clayton played Magnolia. Originally a dancer, Buddy Ebsen (1908-2003) did just that in many films of the 1930s. Later a sidekick to Western heroes Rex Allen and Fess Parker, he also performed in serious character roles such as in Night People (1955). His greatest success came on television, however, where he starred in two popular series, The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971) and Barnaby Jones (1973-1980). Before she debuted on Broadway in Irving Berlin's musical Louisiana Purchase (1939), Carol Bruce (1919-2007) was a frequent radio and night club singer in the 1940s. Although she appeared in several films over the course of her decades-long career, Bruce preferred live performances. Her movies include American Gigolo (1980) and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987). She had recurring guest roles on the television shows Knots Landing (1979-1993) and WKRP in Cincinnati (1979-1982). Jan Clayton (1917-1983) was an American actress who appeared in dozens of movies and television shows between 1935 and 1981, but is probably best known for her stage performances. She created the role of Julie Jordan in the original Broadway production of Carousel (1945-1947) and in the 1946-1947 revival of Show Boat (418 performances). She was also Ellen Miller, the mother of Jeff Miller, in TV's Lassie (1954-1957). Collette Lyons (1908-1986) has appeared in over 20 movies and TV shows between 1937 and 1962. She's also appeared on Broadway, including the 1947-1948 revival of Show Boat, which ran for 418 performances. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Light tears on bottom of front cover. Otherwise, fine condition.
