SID CAESAR
Sid Caesar signs a document with Doyle Dane Bernabach advertising
agency to make a TV commercial for Chemstrand Acrilan blankets.
Document signed: "Sid/Caesar", 7p, 8½x11. New York, New
York, 1966 August 24. Signed on Page 7. Doyle Dane Bernbach advertising
agency hires Caesar to make a TV commercial for Chemstrand Acrilan blankets.
During the period in which the commercial will run, Caesar is not to endorse any
competitor of Chemstrand. A writer and regular performer on TV's live Your
Show of Shows (1950-1954), comedian Sid Caesar (1922-2014) hosted a
series of shows bearing his name for another decade. He earned an Emmy Award
for Best Actor in 1952, and the following year Caesar and Imogene Coca
were voted Best Comedy Team in a poll by "Motion Picture Daily". Caesar's
autobiography, Where Have I Been? (1979), documents his subsequent
struggles with pills and alcohol, but he has continued to appear in cameo roles
in films, such as Vegas Vacation (1997). Caesar, who was nominated for
a Tony Award for Best Actor (Musical) in 1963 for Little Me, is also
a composer and saxophonist. Caesar's name is misspelled "Ceasar" throughout the
printed text of the document. File and staple holes at top. Slightly soiled. Ink
note (unknown hand) at bottom left of Page 1. Otherwise, fine
condition.
