Letter complimenting Barnaby Conrad on Snoopy's Guide to the
Writing Life. "If we could see Charles now, I'm sure he'd be grinning from
ear to ear."
Typed Letter signed: "Sidney, 1 page, 9¼x10½. Los Angeles,
California, 2002 November 22. On personal letterhead to Carpinteria,
California. In full: "Thank you for sending me Snoopy's Guide to
the Writing Life, and for including me in this wonderful collection of
America's favorite cartoon. I am delighted for you and Monte. I saw a lot of
Snoopys I hadn't seen before. The book is fun, funny and very cleverly done.
Surely it will be a huge success. If we could see Charles now, I'm sure he'd be
grinning from ear to ear. Congratulations on a job very well done!!! Warmest
regards". Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007) began his career as a radio joke
writer before going to Hollywood, where he wrote his first credited screenplay,
Mr. District Attorney and the Carter Case, in 1941. The following year,
he had three hits on Broadway. In 1947, Sheldon won the Academy Award
for Best Original Screenplay for The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer
(1947). Sheldon then won two Tony Awards for the 1959 musical,
Redhead. Becoming a director and producer, he created such memorable
shows as I Dream of Jeannie (1965-1970) and Hart to Hart
(1980-1984). Sheldon also became a best-selling author, beginning with
his debut novel, The Naked Face (1969), which won the Edgar Allan Poe
Award. Other best sellers followed, including The Other Side of
Midnight (1974), The Stranger in the Mirror (1975),
Bloodline (1977) and Rage of Angels (1980). His 18
novels have sold over 300 million copies, and many have been made into feature
films or made-for-TV movies or miniseries. Sheldon's autobiography, The Other
Side of Me, was released in November 2005. American author Barnaby
Conrad has written a variety of fiction and nonfiction works, but is
especially well known for his handbooks for writers. Snoopy's Guide to the
Writing Life, co-edited by Monte Schulz, contains a moving forward by
Monte about his father Charles Schulz, creator of the much-loved comic strip
Peanuts. The book features advice on every aspect of writing from
successful published authors, each keyed to a favorite strip featuring Snoopy
(an aspiring author himself). Charles Schulz died in 2000, hours before the last
original Peanuts strip went to press. Normal mailing folds - affecting
signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
