SIGMUND ROMBERG and GENE MARVEY
Signed program from a 1947 Evening with Sigmund Romberg
Program signed: "S Romberg", "Gene Marvey", 4 pages (integral leaf), 7x10½. Program of An Evening with Sigmund Romberg and his Concert Orchestra, Transcontinental Tour Season 1947. Signed on the cover. Hungarian-American composer SIGMUND ROMBERG (1887-1951), who came to the U.S. in 1909, played in restaurant and café orchestras and soon had his own orchestra. He wrote the score for the musical The Whirl of the World (1914) and followed it with more than 70 operettas, including Blossom Time (1921), The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926) and The New Moon (1928). Vocalist GENE MARVEY performed as soloist at this concert, singing "One Alone" from Romberg's 1926 operetta The Desert Song. Besides his musical career, Marvey appeared in at least one film, The Three Mesquiteers (1936). Lightly toned and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
