Sigmund Romberg signs a program titled An Evening with Sigmund Romberg and his Concert Orchestra, 1945 Season.
Program signed in pencil: "Sigmund Romberg", 4p (integral leaf), 6x9. Program titled An Evening with Sigmund Romberg and his Concert Orchestra, 1945 Season. Signed on back cover under a photo reproduction of Romberg (blue-hued b/w, 3x3¼). Pencil notations (unknown hand) on inside pages referring to pieces on the program. Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951), born in Hungary, moved to the US in 1909. Originally a cafe pianist, he was hired in 1914 by the Schubert brothers to write music for their Broadway theatres. Romberg went on to write some of America's most loved operettas, including The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926), The New Moon (1928) and Rosalie (with George Gershwin, 1928). He also worked on film scores, conducted orchestral recordings of his works, and - from 1942 until his death - toured with his own orchestra. Lightly creased. Lightly toned. One-fourth-inch tear at open edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
