SIGMUND ROMBERG
The light opera composer is pleased with a forthcoming newspaper article.
Typed Letter signed: "Romberg", 1 page, 7¼x10¾. Beverly Hills, California, 1947 June 26. On personal letterhead to Dick Hyman, New York City. In full: "Thanks for your letter of June 23rd, enclosing the article by Elsie Robinson, which is to appear in her column on July 26th. I like it very much, and am well pleased with it. Keep up the good work. Until I see you again, my love to your Chief and yourself. Sincerely". Hungarian-American composer Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951), who came to the U.S. in 1909, played in restaurant and café orchestras and soon had his own orchestra. He wrote the score for the musical The Whirl of the World (1914) and followed it with more than 70 operettas, including Blossom Time (1921), The Student Prince (1924), The Desert Song (1926) and The New Moon (1928). Romberg was still active when he wrote this letter, conducting orchestral arrangements of his music for Columbia Records from 1945 to 1950. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Binding holes along left edge, worn with small tears. Otherwise, fine condition.
