Biography
Drummer turned bandleader Abe Lyman (1897-1957) had a popular dance band from the early 1920s to the late 1940s. His 1922 opening at the Cocoanut Grove, it packed in 1500 guests with a waiting line of 500 outside. Lyman's band had a successful European tour (1929), playing locations like London's Palladium and Paris' Moulin Rouge. Lyman and his orchestra were featured in many early talking pictures, and recorded Merrie Melodies soundtracks.
