Biography
Albert Edward Martin (1876-1936) functioned as the mayor of Barking from 1931 to 1934. Prior to his entrance into politics, he joined the Territorial Army, eventually rising to the rank of honorary colonel in the 52nd Anti-Aircraft Brigade. In 1909, he married Edith Savory. After serving as a JP, he became a Member of Parliament in 1918, representing the Romford Liberal party. Then, in 1931, he became the first charter mayor of the new Municipal Borough of Barking.
