Alexandra Huntingdon Tydings was born on December 15, 1972, in Washington, District of Columbia is an American actress, director, writer, and producer best known for portraying Aphrodite in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

Tydings is the daughter of former Maryland U.S. Senator Joseph Tydings and Terry Lynn Huntingdon Tydings, and the granddaughter of former Maryland U.S. Senator Millard Tydings. She graduated from Brown University, where she studied film and critical theory, before moving to Los Angeles, California, to pursue acting.

Her early screen appearances included roles in Red Shoe Diaries and independent films released in the early 1990s. In 1996, she appeared in The Sunchaser. She later became widely associated with the role of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, appearing in both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its spin-off Xena: Warrior Princess. Tydings’ additional television credits include appearances in Party of Five, Sheena, and The Wire.

In later years, Tydings expanded into writing, directing, and producing. In 2015, she wrote and directed The Trial of Hanna Porn, a multimedia stage work concerning abortion, and later worked on Rainbow Bridge, an independent film addressing reproductive rights.
