ANNE MEARA (1929-2015), the wife and comedic partner of Jerry Stiller, has appeared in a number of television variety series, in films and on stage both with her husband and as a solo performer. Stiller & Meara rocketed to stardom on 1960s variety shows, including The Ed Sullivan Show and The Steve Allen Show, their material usually drawn from their different ethnic backgrounds. Meara has appeared in a number of feature films, including Lovers and Other Strangers (1970, with Stiller), The Out-of-Towners (1970), Fame (1980) and Awakenings (1990), starred in the TV series Kate McShane (1975), was a regular on Rhoda (1976-1977), Archie Bunker's Place (1979-1983) and Alf (1987) and was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Anna Christie.
