Biography
Arthur Hammerstein (1872-1955), the son of opera impresario Oscar Hammerstein I and the uncle of librettist and producer Oscar Hammerstein II, was himself a producer of operettas, notably The Firefly (1912), Katinka (1915) and Rose Marie (1924). He also produced a film, Lottery Bride (1930). Furs and Frills, a musical farce written by Edward Clark, with lyrics added by Oscar Hammerstein II, ran for 32 performances on Broadway (October-November, 1917). In 1940 Arthur Hammerstein wrote the song Because of You, which became a big hit for Tony Bennett in 1951.
