ARTIMUS PYLE
Born: July 15, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky
Biography
Thomas Delmer "Artimus" Pyle (born in 1948), who began playing the drums at age 12, joined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1974, shortly after the group released their second album, Second Helping, which featured their signature hit, "Sweet Home Alabama". Three years later, Pyle, who was known as the "Wild Man" of the group, survived the plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines and Gaines' sister, Cassie. In 1981, Pyle formed the A.P.B. (sometimes called the Artimus Pyle Band or also known as the All Points Bulletin), which released two albums before Pyle joined the Skynyrd Tribute Tour in 1987. He left that group after releasing another Skynyrd album in 1991, but Pyle continues to play with his own band and performs with other musicians. He released a studio album, Artimus Venomus, in 2007.
