Biography
Thurgood Marshall (1908-1993), was the first Black American Associate Justice to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court (1967-1991). As legal director for the NAACP, he had previously argued the landmark Civil Rights case, Brown v. Board of Education (1954), before the Supreme Court. Marshall won the case, resulting in the outlawing of racial segregation in public schools.
