Ben Vereen, an American actor, dancer, and singer, was born on October 10, 1946, in Miami, Florida. He has enjoyed a prolific career across stage and screen, particularly noted for his contributions to musical theater.
Vereen's interest in performance was evident from a young age, and he attended the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. His first major breakthrough came with a role in the Broadway production "Hair" in 1968. However, it was his Tony Award-winning performance as the Leading Player in "Pippin" (1972) that cemented his status as a leading Broadway star.
On television, Vereen is perhaps best known for his Emmy-nominated role as Chicken George Moore in the acclaimed miniseries "Roots" (1977).
